Fountains were preserved in many places in the town, providing architectural freshness and useful public amenity. The construction boom of fountains began in the middle of 19th century. Such fountains were built by the streets, in the squares and in courtyards. They were decorated with stone ornamentation such as lions, doves, double-headed eagles. Usually their construction was funded by donations. Fountains were dexterously integrated into the overall urban image, to remind the next generations about the generosity of individual persons but of guilds as well.
